Truffle Croque Monsieur Croissants
Ingredients:
- 4 croissants, halved horizontally
- 2 tbsp of butter
- 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of milk
- 150g of Ham, thinly sliced
- 1 ½ cup of grated Emmental cheese
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish
- Fresh chives, finely chopped, for garnish
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium pot over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 2–3 minutes on low heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens.
- Lower the heat and stir in 1 cup of the grated Emmental, a drizzle of truffle oil, and a sprinkle of truffle dust. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat.
- Place the croissant halves on the prepared baking sheet. On the bottom halves, layer slices of ham, spoon over the truffle cheese sauce, and top with the remaining Emmental cheese. Place the top halves of the croissants back on.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5–6 minutes, or until the croissants are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Garnish with grated Parmesan and chopped chives. Serve warm.
